This is the resurrection/reinvention of my silly thread labeled: "Confessions of a Lore Tourist"
I doubt that anyone read it but I enjoyed doing it so I'm moving it here and adding to it. :)

Hello Boys and Girls. Many of you know that I'm a bit of a Lore nerd and I take the whole thing as seriously as I can without quite taking that step into the miasma of Role Play.
There are some awesome lore characters you come across all the time in WOTLK and you may not realize just how UBER these NPCs are in sense of the overall story. :)
So, sit back and enjoy my cheesy slide-show. I'll add to it as I find them. I'll try to cite the books I've run into these UBER peeps in as well.
First one, the Alliance leader I revere above all others, Jaina Proudmoore:
What can I say about this Mage Extraordinaire. She listened to the warnings of the Last Guardian, Medivh (whole other story) and allied her people with Thrall's to fight the Burning Legion. Many other leaders did not, to their peril (see Artha's dad).
Speaking of Arthas... This gal has a bad history with men. She and Arthas were an item in their younger years but training kept them apart. Her training took her to Pre-Archimond-smack-down-Dalaran for her Mage training. There, she was associated with another blond prince, named... wait for it, Kael'thas Sunstrider /shudder.(EEHHWWHHHHH!! Any male that spends more time on his hair than you do – not attractive. ;)
Update: I'm happy to report that the novel, "Arthas," by Christie Golden indicates that the thing between her a Elf-boy-Emo-Extreme was all on his side. /whew. ;D
Auntie-Rant Editorial:
LOL, on that note she, "betrayed," her blood-hungry father to honor her truce with Thrall. That is an act that I REALLY respect and very likely saved her people. It is rumored that she may be the only human who has made it into the songs of honor of the Orcs. Some people try to link Thrall and Jaina romantically. Honestly, I wouldn't blame her. Thrall is quite possibly the best, "man," in Azeroth but there is no lore basis for this romantic idea at this time.
(This may have changed in the comics recently)
Jaina is considered a mage of astounding power and is beloved by her people. Consider how hard this is to accomplish within the strains of honoring the peace with Thrall's people in the midst of deep-seeded prejudices on both sides!

P.S. Medivh’s Mom, Aegwynn, who is thousands of years old, is presently working for Jaina as her Magistrate (died recently in the comics). I kid you not. This is the lady that took on Sargeras one on one and bullied held the Guardianship for thousands of years longer than anyone else ever had. (another story).
